One of the Christmas presents from my boyfriend this year was the Neil Young archives box set vol. 1 and I have been loving it. "Heart of Gold" was the first song I heard this morning, January 1, 2010. Which is a great way to start the new year, and new decade. This re-mastered set of songs has really been inspiring. One of my favorite harmonica solos ever, it always makes my heart stand still. And that haunting pedal steel - doesn't get much better than this, a perfectly crafted song and lyrics and composition married in a way that, contrary to the narrator of this song, never gets old.
I want to live
I want to give
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
It's these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I'd cross the ocean
For a heart of gold
I've been in my mind
It's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keep me searching
for a heart of gold
You keep me searching
for a heart of gold
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
And I'm growing old
